Ngati Rangi health deal signed
Waimarino Maori signed a deal with the Cen tral Regional Health Authority recently, to provide health services in the area. The deal was signed at a ceremony held at the Maungarongo Marae. To be known as the Ngati Rangi Community Health Centre, the service will initially be based at the marae Kokiri building. A management committee has been formed with weekly meetings held to work through the plans to establish the service. The committee aims to have the service in place before Christmas and fully operational in January. Committee member Rita Kaiwhare told the Bulletin that initially a health nurse would be employed. She said while the main aim of the service would be to provide health services to local Maori, anyone would be able to use the service. The move follows months of discussion which started from a public meeting held in June 1996.
