Soldier sets out on APC Iovride

Waiouru • At about midnight Saturday police were advised that an Army Armoured Personnel Carrier had been unlawfully taken. This was recovered a few hours later in the training area, as was the driver in his barracks. The Army are now handling the matter, having arrested a trainee APC driver. He will either be dealt with by the regiment's commanding officer or face.a court martial. Army spokesman Captain Marcus Culley said they suspected the APC was driven around for about 3090 minutes on Army land.

Cpt Culley said the APC did not carry weapons and there was no damage from the incident. Waiouru police had a busy week on the roads. • On Tuesday morning a car rolled just south of Waiouru after hitting ice. While the scene was still being cleared another vehicle drove into the back of a Unimog truck parked at the scene. • On Wednesday a car lost control and crashed into a stream on SH49 and on Saturday night a soldier

drove his motorcycle into a barrack block and had to be airlifted to hospital. • There was one family violence incident attended during the week but no arrest had to be made. Waimarino • A burglary of a chalet in Conway Street was reported where a TV, electrical appliances and bedding were stolen. • On Thursday night the Ohakune Primary School office was broken into and a small amount of property stolen. • Also on Thursday evening a Raetihi man was charged with driving with excess breath alcohol after his driving attracted the attention of the police.

• In the early hours of Sunday morning a rock was thrown through the window of the Raetihi Pricecutter and some Chippies and Twisties were stolen. • Police are also seeking

information regarding a burglary of the Turoa Ski Shop between 28 October and 5 November. A quantity of Vuarnet, Serengetti and Dirty Dog sunglasses were stolen.
