Student speech

Joint speech by head boy Andrew Murdie and head girl Rebecca McDougal: It's the end of the year, the time has come, and we now prepare.to go, without a backward glance we leave the people we have come to know. Through time we will move wherever fate may decree, but over the years 1*11 never forget what Ruapehu College has done for me,

In April this year. we attended a camp, at Outdoor Pursuits we swam, swung and tramped. We abseiled into gorges and froze half to death, swimming in mountain cold water that took away our breath. The mountain we tackled none could compare, we had to turn back, only half way there. We disarmed a fake bomb under a bridge, using a raft, rope and key from the water' s edge. The skills that we learnt both indoors and out, helped us to realise what leadership's about. Our new friends and experience rhade the camp fun, to attend outdoor pursuits we urge anyone. Then there's student cOuncil which proved a difficult task, to keep the meetings regular and make them last. We did however continue to sponsor a child, and hope this tradition will be continued for a long while. The police "Dare" programme put us to test, primary students questioned us on decisions which had not always been best. Nonetheless it was a lot of fun, even if it did mean embarrassment for some. Over the past five years this has been a second home, I will not forget this place wherever it is I roam. Ruapehu College has always been a caring place, the people and atmosphere bring a smile to the dullest face. The opportunities that are provided from this small school, enable anyone to make the most of their education at will. Although this school is small it has a large heart, the memories of this place in my life will play a large part. The year just gone has gone so fast, the hard work and fun now all in the past. And once again we prepare to go, and leave those people we have come to know. But we must say thanks before we leave, to those who have helped us, we believe ... You helped make the year a success, all the staff are friends, fellow students and guests And finally to thoSe whose year's almost up, for your exams we wish you good luck. *
