Raetihi sale
There was a small yarding of sheep at last week's Raetihi Sale held Thursday 14 November. Two-toothed lambs fetched $42.00 to $42.50 and some small framed ewe lambs fetched $25.20. There were a few hoggets in the yard which sold for $32.20 and $36.20. A small yard of mixed-aged wether fetched $30.20. Auctioneers viewed prices as reasona"ble, comparing well with other saies in the region. According to farmers who had stock at the sale, prices remained low for cattle and as one farmer said, "they are likely to remain this way for a bit yet, however, it's much the same everywhere". Three-year old bullocks fetched a high of $ 1 400, then ranged from $422, to about $470 for Hereford cross. Some Charolais two-year old steers fetched $371. Yearlings managed between $ 1 62 and $200. Buyers were from Wanganui and Manawatu with some local interest. The Raetihi lamb fair set down for 15 December is expected to generate good interest.
