Council adopts marketing plan

The Ruapehu District Council's annual marketing plan was adopted last week by the council's marketing subcommittee. After initially delaying the adoption of the plan to concentrate resources on the 'Bounce Back' post-eruption promotion, subcommittee members said they were very pleased with the results being achieved. Subcommittee chairman Graeme Cosford said the marketing plan sets the future programmes and also reviews past projects and the results associated with these. "We are especially pleased that since council became involved in marketing that the industry for the past three years has almost matched the council's fmancial contribution," he said. "Our district' s profile has only grown because of this." By providing a council-funded resource, the industry has become financially involved and council contribution has not been needed to directly fund some projects. The last two years for the local operators have been very difficult and will provide new challenges and opportunities, he said.
