Rotokura hunters asked to take care
Recreational deer and pig hunters visiting the Rotokura area within Rangataua Forest this springand summer are asked to continue to take extra care due to the presence of increased numbers of research staff in the area during the period. Scientists will continue their three-year study into the secret lives of the area's short-tailed bat population through the summer but further staff will also be involved in collecting gen-
eral conservation management data as part of a wider conservation initiative, according to Department of Conservation staff. Staff will be working at all hours and often outside the normal working week and well away from tracks and roads. While researchers will be wearing orange vests most
of the time, poor weather may mean they are not always easily identified and hunters should take extra care to positively identify their targets within the area.
