Swansong spruce-up for Raetihi rugby clubrooms
The Raetihi Rugby Club held its final meeting last Wednesday 30 October with the business of the meeting to pass the accounts for payment, approve the handing over of the books for final auditing and arrange a working bee to clean up and renovate the clubrooms,- in readiness for the. incoming combined Ruapehu Rugby Club committee. The newly-formed committee have a number of Raetihi members and it is hoped that as part of a sub committee, it will be their task to act as caretakers of the Raetihi clubrooms. The Raetihi committee had previously agreed to renovate and now that the 1996 season has ended, they felt the time was right to proceed. So, armed with buckets, brooms, ladders, hammers, scrapers and cleaning liq-
uid, away they went on Saturday, "boots 'n' ' all". Much of the major work was done in preparation for painting and wallpapering and they hope to start within the next fortnight. They plan to paint the ceiling and kitchen, re-wallpaper, refurbish the toilets and attend to some minor repairs. Most of the work is been done voluntarily with the professional help and advice from both Angel Rapana and Keith Haitana. Stuart Haitana, club president, thanked all those on the committee for their input and their commitment to keeping the club going in its final year. He acknowledged all the work done by past players, committee members and supporters who over the years gave up a tremendous amount of time for the club.
