Eye on Ruapehu College

Ruapehu College entered 20 students in the Australian Mathematics Competition held in August with several students showing success. Jasmine Robertson obtained "distinction" and six students achieved "credit". They were Angela Bradley, Emma Forster, Hayley Mackay, Steven Sue, Daniel Forster and Tony Steward. Neil Bradley was placed in the top one per cent of entrants and received a special achievement award. All entrants received a Certificate of Participation and an Individual performance report. Over 520,000 secondary school students from 32 countries entered the competition. New staff Ruapehu College has two new staff members this term, Mr Abie Swart fromCapetown in South Africa and Mr Peter Ranchhod from Palmerston North. Mr Swart is head of the geography department, while Mr Ranchhod is teaching science and mathematics. Exams Fifth and seventh formers have completed their examinations and are soon to have. reports issued. These examinations are practice runs for School Certificate and Bursary examinations which begin in earnest in four weeks' time. Sixth formers will sit exams after Labour Weekend. Clubs The clubs cycle began this term with students taking part in a variety of activities from rollerblading to golf to farming chores.
