Rochfort Park to be Ruapehu rugby's home
Rochfort Park in Ohakune is to be the headquar ters for the new Ruapehu Rugby and Sports Club, it was decided at the inaugural meeting of the club, held Wednesday 23 October 1996, where those present also confirmed the name. The name incorporates 'Sports' with a view to the future when it is hoped other codes may use the club's facilities. Home games are to alternate between Rochfort Park and the Raetihi showgrounds field with meetings and practices to also alternate. These arrangements are to be reviewed at the next annual general meeting. The Ruapehu Club will use the colours of the U21s' — stripes of green, blue and white with the design yet to be finalised. A sub-committee will draft a constitution for the clubs' consideration. Those who are current life members of Ohakune/Karioi or Raetihi are invited to become life members of the newly-formed club. A local competition is to be organised to establish a logo for the club. The club resolved that as a club they should be seen to support both Ohakune and Raetihi primary
schools as well as the Ruapehu College Rugby teams..It was also suggested that the Ruapehu Golden Oldies Club be invited to come under the umbrella of the new club. The club will need a club captain, a coach for the senior reserves and is advertising for a part-time secretary/treasurer. There were 22 people present at the meeting with several apologies.
