Heartland runs with the kids

The 'Heartland' television crew were filming on the Whanganui River last week and included in their programme was a visit to Orautoha School. The school was running its inter-schools cross country race, hosting Waiouru, National Park, Ohakune. Raetihi, Pipiriki and Orautoha. There were approximately 300 pupils attending, the largest number seen at the school for a few years, according to the principal, Andrea Nola. The 'Heartland' were at times, also 'on the run' trying to keep up with the pupils. There was tremendous parent support, as course officials and encouraging the students as they 'boxed' on to the finish. The event took place last Monday 21 October. Following the races, certificate awards were given to the first four place getters. Kath Campbell from Ohakune, who has been recently appointed the Ruapehu District Sports Coordinator, did the honours.
