Places still in mtns relay

The venue for the Around the Mountains Relay race after-func-tion has changed. Race co-ordinator Keith Davies said due to OSH constraints the Waiouru Workshops would be replaced by a marquee over three quarters the size of a football field, 72x18 metres. Medals commemorating the silver jubilee of the race this year will be given to every competitor. The striking of the medals was stopped just in time last year when the race was cancelled due to the Ruapehu

eruption ash falls. This year batons will be used for the first time to assist with the change overs, said Mr Davies. Entries are down this year, possibly because of last year's cancellation, but 2000 people were expected for the function. Because of the reduced numbers entries are still open. Tenders to support the race are being sought and inquiries can be directed to Mr Davies at the Waiouru Army Museum, 06-387-6111 ext 7049, PO Box 45, Waiouru.
