Ohakune gardeners report

Members of the Ohakune and Raetihi Garden Clubs met in the Ohakune School staffroom on Tuesday 24 September for their annual quiz night. Participants drew numbers and were divided into teams. The five sets of questions used were prepared by Bea and Dot Barnes and Bea Barnes was the Quizmaster. The questions covered a multitude of topics from politics, art, music, general knowledge to the most difficult topic for most — gardening. The end result was very close with only five marks separating first from last. The winning team was Adrienne Maru, Barbara Kennedy and Fran Frew, who each received a novelty candle as a prize.

A small gift was presented to Dot and Bea Barnes for their efforts in making the evening a success. The evening concluded with supper. The next meeting will be held at Maureen and Ted Warren's, Marshalls Road, on Tuesday 22 October. Before the formal part of the meeting there will be a

visit to Judy Rhodes garden at Maire Hill, Rangataua. Members are asked to be there between 7.00 and 7.30pm. Anyone needing a ride can phone Lois 3858891 orMaureen385-8455. October' s competitions will be a collection of five outdoor flowers, a rhododendron, and flower and shrub of choice.
