Waimarino netball wrap up good season

The Waimarino Under- 18 Netball Team com pleted a very successful 1996 season in the C grade competition. This year is the first time that the region has had a secondary school representative team for some eight years. They played in toumaments at Rotorua, Wanganui and in the Waimarino. At Rotorua they were the winners of the Kurangaituku toumament. They are a 10-member team including reserves made up

of players from Raetihi and Ohakune with one player, from National Park (who also attends Ruapehu College). The team (pictured above) are Shey Rangtiihu, Marcia Wood, Amy Brell, Lynette Haitana, Aisha Kumeroa, Chaana Morgan, Cheryl Condon, Tineke Edwards and Captain, Raana Ellen Mareikura. Their coach is Ali Hamlin while Marcia Apatu is assistant coach and Rosalind Foster their manager.

Nitelife Security The Ohakune Night Life Security Netball senior A grade team also posted wins at toumaments outside the region. Travelling to Hastings recently, they won the Pacific New Zealand finals, the Kurangatuku E grade and were runners up in the Linton Army Camp B grade event. They also won the best dressed team award. Players are (some pictured right): Ali Hamlin (player/coach), Decadia Pakinga, Raana-Ellen Mareikura, Agnes Mareikura, Kate Worsford, Marcia Apatu (captain), Penny Crapp, Vicki-Lee T aylor, Eileen Clarke, Lisa Mareikura andErin WorkI man with Kura Mareikura as their manager. Prizes awarded at a prizegiving ! held at Ali and Tom Mareikura' s home on Sati urday were: player of the

year Agnes Mareikura (on a points system; Most hard out player Ali Hamlin; Player of the year (on a voting system) Marcia Apatu; Most improved player Penny Crapp.
