David Squires from Raetihi has been taking art classes for the past two years and emerging from those classes are quite a few bud- . ding young artists, he says. Last year Erin Kilmartin started the course, which ifc funded by REAP, and she entered the Ohakune Art Awards, winning in her section. Mr Squires said that this area lends itself to some interesting and varying landscape and he feels the students should be familiar with their own local environment as this helps them to express themselves. Mr Squires organised an open day recently. Parents were more than a little surprised at the standard of work their children had completed for their little exhibition.
