Warning on noise

There has been an increase in the number of noise complaints received arising from noisy stereos in the last 4-6 weeks, reports the Ruapehu District Council. "Everybody has the responsibility to keep their noise at a reasonable level," said council chief executive officer Cliff Houston. "If you don't and a complaint is received by the noise control officer, a notice will be served that requires you to immediately reduce the noise and keep it reduced for up to 72 hours." "If the noise is not reduced or another complaint is received within the 72 hour period, the equipment could be seized by the noise control officer and police. If seized, Council will seek to recover costs," warns Mr Houston.
