Dancing down the line

By Amiria Teki Around 300 people turned out to enjoy the Raetihi Spring Festival street stall and to visit the Waimarino Spring Bulb Show on Saturday. Featured on the programme for the day ' s entertainment was a group of

line dancers, led by Ethnie Kinnaird. She said the dance has increased in popularity and last Saturday 20 women strutted their stuff to good old country music. The bulb show opened its doors to the public about 1 pm at the W aimarino Club. In spite of the recent rains,

there was a good number of entries in all sections with, the daffodil section being the largest. There was a good array of camellias and other shrubs and potted plants. Cath Bowater, from Raetihi , won the points prize for the best local exhibitor in the narcissi class, also

winningthe Family Plunket Cup for the top aggregate points in the same section. Entries came from Ohakune and Raetihi, a tatai of 40 in all. Another 'spring Saturday' event was the second annual social rugby match, W aimarino Shearers versus

the Tangiwai Mill Boys in front of around 400 people. The Shearers had the upper hand in the first half, scoring with two penalty goals and one converted try , but then the Mill Boys came back putting points on the board, Adam Hinana doing Turn to Page 2
