• The driver of a vehicle that left the road and rolled down a 40m bank, 7 km north of Waiouru on Saturday, died while being flown to hospital. The person received serious head and leg injuries in the accident Police have not yet released the name of the driver. • Waiouru police attended an accident on State Highway One, 1 5 km north of Waiouru on Wednesday 1 8 September. Both the driver and the passenger were airlifted to Palmerston North hospital, the driver with back and internal injuries and the passenger, believed to be a hitchhiker, rib and arm injuries. The Desert Road was closed for about half an hour while the site was cleared. • Two Waiouru youths are being dealt with by Police Youth Aid after stealing a small amount of money from a Ballance Street address last week.
