Ohakune gardeners meeting report

Lois MeQuarrie welcomed 1 4 members to her home for their recent meeting of the Ohakune Garden Glub, along with the guest demonstrator Helen Robinson. Helen was involved in the planting of floral baskets for the Wanganui Mainstreet beautification. Helen explained the use of the different types of baskets - wire, plastic, the "flower tower" and the half baskets which are suitable for hanging on walls and trellises. There are also different linings available from the cheaper polythene and coconut fibre to a wool mix which can be washed and reused. She then demonstrated planting a 300mm wire basket with a mixture of orange and blue violas and lobelia. The demonstration basket was later raffled and was won by Maureen Warren, Club members planted their own baskets with Helen' s assistance. Members were asked to support the Waimarino Spring Flower Show to be held in Raetihi on 21 September. The September meeting will take the form of a Quiz Night, Tuesday 24 September at the primary school staffroom at 8pm. Contact phone numbers for those inter-
