• A 29-year old Lower Hutt man was killed instantly when his car rolled several times on State Highway 49 at Karioi on Wednesday. Both passengers in the vehicle received moderate to serious injuries and were air-lifted to Palmerston North Hospital. The dead man was Dean John Parkins. • Waiouru Police are concerned about the number of cyclists not wearing cycle helmets, and riding bicycles after dark that are not equipped with lights. Both offences are punishable by an instant fine.
• Police are investigating intentional damage to carpark signs and flag poles outside the Army Museum on Friday. Speed restriction signs on SH1 near the Museum were also damaged. • A Wellington man was arrested for the theft of a floor mat from the Shell Service Station in Waiouru on Saturday. • Police report that the 1 300 attendees at this year' s Cold Kiwi Rally were well behaved, with only one disorder ineident attended. The success was attributed partly to the new site, which was located well off the main road, with no motor
vehicle accidents reDorted.
