Raetihi hairdresser gains national merit
Raetihi hairdresser Donna McGrath recently gained rec ognition in the Loreal colour competition, a nation-wide event judged in Auckland between May and July of this year. Donna was one of 400 entrants invited to take part and towards the end of July she was notified that her entry had been held back for re-judging. She said this was encouraging and the result was a certificate of merit. When asked what she thought of the competition, she said most entries were too messy, too untidy, too disorganised in terms of image, — "back to the hippy era". The messy image is what Donna perceived the judges had been looking.for when she saw the competition outcome in the recent
Trends Hairdressing magazine. She said the fashion industry seems to want the revealing, sexy look and Donna said that, in hindsight, she was too conservative in her approach. She realises now, that while she likes the image she chose, she needs to cater for the public's needs, not hers. However, she was more than happy with what she produced, choosing to go with a more elegant style. Donna said she tried to combine elegance and classic glamour with an air of mystique. She said she would be keen to have another go if given the opportunity to enter next year, Her model was Sharon Wagstaff who is now a qualified hairdresser, working fulltime for Donna.
