Cross country skier wins
Ruapehu College pupil Caroline Lundberg recently won races at the SecOndary Schools New Zealand Cross Country Skiing competition, held at the Waiorau Nordic Ski Area near Cardrona, between Wanaka and Queenstown. She won the girls' race and her team also took the international team prize in the mixed teams event. Caroline is studying at Ruapehu College as an exchange student from
Sweden, the home of Nordic skiing. She has practised cross-country skiing since she was a young girl. The New Zealand Cross Country Skiing Association is planning to start regular cross country skiing in the North Island, with the help of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, said Waiorau Nordic Ski Area representative Mary Lee. She said this may lead to more interchange of school competition between the North and South islands.
