Sports co-ordinator hired
The Ruapehu District will benefit with the appointment of a sports co-ordinator. Kath Campbell, a physical education teacher from Ohakune, will officially start on 23 August as Ruapehu' s sports co-ordinator and will be based in Taumarunui. "I will be helping to implement some very exciting programmes, and will work to provide activities specific to the needs of our communities," Kath Campbell. "Our district encompasses five towns and many outlying communities. Once established, one of fny aims is for Sport Ruapehu to reach and serve all these areas". Kath Campbell was appointed after what Larry Graham, executive director for Sport Wanganui, described as "a photo finish" race.
"The calibre of applicants was extremely encouraging. Kath not onl> brings experience to the job but an infectious enthusiasm that will enhance an already pro-active sporting community, he said. The appointment is the result of an agreement between the Hillarj Commission, Ruapehu District Council and Sport Wanganui. Sport Wanganui will be representing the region at the National Business Quality Awards in Wellington on 4 September after recently winning the regional award from a field of nine finalists. Working under the umbrella of Sport Wanganui, Sport Ruapehu will have financial autonomy and will enjoy the benefits of working with othei district co-ordinators and sports trusts around the country.
