Reserves funds still at $111,000
Waimarino land subdivision reserves contribution funds have a total balance of over $ 1 1 1 ,000, Waimarino Community Board members heard at their last meeting. The funds are split between the former Waimarino local authorities with the former Waimarino County Council fund standing at $26,700, the Raetihi Borough Council fund at $2980 and the Ohakune Borough Council fund at $81,900. The board had earlier requested information on the state of the funds, which can be used for reserves projects within the areas they were collected. The board recommended to the Ruapehu District Council that funds for the replacement of the Ohakune Jubilee Park foot bridge should come from Ohakune' s fund, which would free up money from the Waimarino separate ward rate for other projects.
Also recommended to come from the fund was the cost of two street lights, at $500 each, for Hukuroa Road in Raetihi. One of the street lights was requested to be put outside the Nga Morehu O Uenuku Kohanga. Opposition There was opposition to this recommendation, with Doug Bennett asserting that the applications should go through the normal annual plan process. Board member John Compton said the requirement that the monies be spent in the area raised had expired. "Does that mean that because we have been frugal and saved this money that we'll be penalised?" asked chairman Colin Webb. "I doubt the council would be so mercenary," said Mr Compton.
