Visitors read to Raetihi kids

National Book Weeksaw a wide range of people from the commuriity visit Raetihi School to read to children and talk to them about books. A policeman, a radio announcer, the editor of the Ruapehu Bulletin, a librarian, and a district councillor were among the visitors, chosen to show the children the wide range of people who use and read books. Raetihi librarian David Squires was one of the visitors to Room 1 1 and, with a variety of books, he captured his young audience with their eyes firmly fixed in absolute attention. Teacher Monica Jones organised the reading sessions. Mrs Jones took the opportunity to arrange a class trip to the library to give those children who are not members a chance to join, and to give the children an idea of the wide variety of books available in the librarv.
