Ohakune gardeners meet
The May meeting of the Ohakune Garden Club was held at the home of Nita and Bruce Wilde on Tuesday 28 May, with a small gathering due to another function involving some members. The financial stdtement for 1995-96 was circulated showing the club was in a healthy position. It was decided to leave the subs for 1996-97 at $10. Nita Wilde complimented retiring treasurer Kandy Barrett's presentation of the balance sheet. It was with regret that the resignation of Lennie McDonnell was received. She has been a long-timemember of the Club. It was moved that a floral tribute be sent to her. The next meeting will be on 24 June at Wilde' s, with a photograph competition to be held in two Categories — an autumn scene and any other garden shot. The photographs must have been taken by the entrants and competitors can enter up to six in either category. The photos will be judged by a professional photographer. The usual competitions of flower and/or shrub of choice will be held and an arrangement of foliage. Results of May competitions: Chrysanthemums: 1st E Beavis, 2nd T Smart, 3rd O George. Flower of Choice: lst N Wilde (rose), 2nd E Beavis (ranunculus), 3rd N Wilde (violet). Shrub of choice: lst N Wilde (daphne), 2nd E Beavis (grevillea), 3rd N Wilde (berry). Autumn Arrangement: lst T Smart, 2nd N Wilde, 3rd M Warren. The arrangements were done at the meetings being a follow-up to a demonstration of autumn arrangements by Dawn Donaldson at the April meeting.
