Ruapehu senior rugby

Ruapehu Seniors took on Wanganui Counties on Saturday and the visitors showed their strength, speed

and quick thinking play against Ruapehu and opened their account with a penalty goal by their number 12 in the first five minutes of the game. The score 3-0. Regrouping, Ruapehu looked good in attack, gaining good ground at times with a fair amount of possession, but things were given away when players like Mario Mareikura were not backed up sooner. Shaun McLean, full back for Counties, went over for a great try which was converted to go 15-0 up after 20 minutes of play. Raetihi was awarded a penalty which was turned into points 30 minutes into the game, the score 15-3. Counties again scored and that try was also converted bringing the half time score to 22-3. Ruapehu 's coach put the hard word on the boys at half time, asking the loose forwards to run onto the

ball and keep the back line going. Two more penalty goals went Ruapehu' s way . The score after 10 minutes into the second half was 296. Counties scored points with yet another converted try. Wanganui Counties scored with two more tries both converted with the full time score being 43-9. Brilliant play by Shaun McLean, full back for Counties secured those final points. For Ruapehu, Tom Rawiri, Paul Trow, Mario Mareikura and Michael Wills all had a good game.
