Raetihi pony club

The last rally for the season was held on Sunday with pony club members and parents participating in a riding trek, then a light lunch followed by the Raetihi Pony Club prize-giving. Throughout the season several pony club members achieved their goals but some unfortunately didn't, mainly due to horse injuries. This year Raetihi Pony Club had a team at the New Zealand Pony Club Golden Games hosted by the King Country Association. This was the first time that a competition of this kind was held. It celebrated 50 years of pony club in New Zealand. The Raetihi team consisted of Briar McGregor, Nicola Smith, Cameron and Virginia Morris, who did extremely well to gain four out of six placings in the finals. At the North Island show jumping champs held in Cambridge a team represented the Waimarino Pony Club. Raetihi Pony Club riders in the team did extremely well and gained places for the Waimarino. Amanda Garland and Nicola Smith jumped against fairly stiff competition in the intermediate section while Cameron and Virginia competed in the junior section. The New Zealand Pony Club champs held in Oamaru saw the King Country Pony Club Association representing their area with great pride

and Raetihi ' s member Nicola Smith, rode very proudly for the association. This was Nicola' s first time at the champs and she rode a very determined cross-country course . Dressage champs were a disappointment for Sally Williams, after she had gained a place in the King Country team, as she and her horse 'Integrity' had to withdraw due to injuries her horse had incurred. Chushla

Edgarten, Amanda Garland and Claire Hyland, all Raetihi members, performed with distinctipn. Timberlands was the last competition on the calendar. Amanda Garland and Nicola Smith joined the Waimarino team to Timberlands. Both riders completed their goals with the other club members to enable Waimarino to be

placed on the points board. "It has been a long hard season and we hope to see those who have been unable to compete, because of horses being out of action due to injuries, on the scene next season," said a club spokesperson.
