Junior badminton

On Sunday 1 2 May a group of Ohakune junior badminton players travelled to Feilding to play in the Oroua Junior Open. They were Nathan and Cory Saunders, Ben McMaster, Nicholas Cranston, Kirsty Litt, Vicki Cranston, Ema Bates, Ashantha Perera, Eileen Voon and Donna Cranston. With such a large number of competitors, three halls were used for this event. With badminton becoming a more popular sport competition is of a much higher standard. Results were pleasing with Kirsty Litt being runner-up in the plate under-12 final, losing 20/24. Donna and Eileen won the under-16 doubles and Donna and Luke won the combines, with Eileen and Tony as runner-ups. Ohakune junior nights are Mondays from 6-7pm followed by seniors from 7.30-9pm at the Ruapehu College gym.
