After a busy carrot export season centred on Ohakune, Railways' TransLink is able to offer Main Trunk Rail Ohakune financial help for its 24 May Bay Explorer Excursion and a complimentary carriage on the excursion train to local growers and other clients. Stops at scenic points will be made, time permitting on the 16 & 1/2 hour trip. The

itinerary also includes a wine trail and a chance to view the recently restored Ormondville Railway Station precinct Attending to passengers' needs will be MTRO members and volunteer student helpers from Ruapehu College. MTRO, a community group dedicated to the preservation of the rail history of the Ruapehu south region, intends to promote the central North Island throughout this excursion. Representatives of the Ruapehu District Council will be among the 150 passengers on the train. Some tickets are still available and MTRO welcomes enquiries on (06) 385-8700.
