Waiouru business support
• As a past owner of a business in the Waiouru Community Centre, I am disappointed with the lack of support given to these businesses by the local population and the Army. These owners have invested time and money into developing their businesses both for financial gain to them-
selves and also to providing a good service to the local population. The AGI have a good range of items as have all the other shops in the centre and, I believe their service is on a par with any shop in the city. Even more disappointing are the small businesses operating from houses in the Army housing area, which are similar to those already in the community centre. Do the tenancy agreements allow them to operate? Do they comply with health and council regulations? Do they pay rates, rentals or leases as a business? Do they comply with GST (and other) tax regulations? Is the Army condoning the setting up of some of these small businesses? I know the Community Centre outlets are complying with these points mentioned. On one hand people moan and groan about no chemist, no butcher, no bank etc etc. On the other hand, are they supporting their Community Centre? I think not.
