Raetihi School trophies history

Raetihi School' s cup with the oldest recorded history appears to be the Dux of the school. The dux was first presented to the school in 1930 and that year it was won by J Orinnan. Some family names have appeared several times on the cup, sometimes spanning generations. Names like Chan, Journeaux, Brown, Sandford and Mowat. Kate Woodhouse is the current holder of the cup. The Raetihi School Mardi Golden Jubilee cup is presented as the Maori Dux to the best all-round Maori pupil. It was first presented on 24 August 1946, to Pauline Raymond. Names engraved on the cup more than once include Rawiri, Hawira, Haitana, Rihia, Brider, Waara, Kurankaanga and Mowat. The shield for the best all-round Form 2 pupil was first presented in 1968 by the pupils themselves. 1969 saw

Francis Milbank take the award. Family names like, Dobson, McLean and Pearce were amongst those to receive the award. The Post Office Banking Shield is no longer presented, but it was awarded week by week to the class who had the most number of depositors for that week, not necessarily the largest amount deposited. It aimed to encourage savings. The shield was dropped when New Zealand Post Office' s savings system changed in the late 1970's.
