Racing in bar a barrel of laughs Raetihi Hotel was the venue for a novel event recently — keg racing. Competitors took it in turn to mount two motorised kegs on wheels, controlling speed and the need to 'stop' with a small lever. After several people had their practice runs as well as several falls, the competition got underway. There was a small crowd to witness the fun on the inside track, which may have been a tad too small. And judging by the laughs of the viewers, (who weren't the ones falling off). A good night was had by many. "Yee-ha" time! Down the street, the Ruapehu Country Music Club turned on a "yee ha" of a session at the Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club. Once again few attended but there were plenty of whistles and rousing applause, not only for the members but also those from the audience who got up to have a go. The "Jandal Sisters" of club members Maggie Cherrington and Gran Kinnaird, were joined by Jo Oliver and if applause is anything to go by provided a very popular session. Maybe even more popular was the fact that Danni Siddells and Tu Wikahika joined in and their show really came alive. The Ruapehu Country Music Club was a very strong club for a 10-year period before they went into recess. In this past year the club has seen a revi val and now meet once a fortnight, usually in Ohakune. They are always willing to give anyone a go and encourage new members to try out their talents. Membership is $5 a year. Contact people are Tommy Waara, Maggie Cherrington, Bob McGinniss, Don Johnson, Gran Kinnaird or Barry Reid.
