Raetihi riders do well at Golden Games
Sixty teams took part in the New Zealand Pony Club Golden Games held in Waiouru on 5, 6 and 7 January. The Raetihi Pony Club team , being Nicola Smith, Cameron Morris, Briar McGregor and Virginia Morris did extremely well as a team to reach four out of the six finals. After getting through the heats then to the semi-finals the pressure was on all teams in the finals. The outcome was that the team was placed 2nd, 4th, 6th and 1 1th. Teams entered the games from as far away Te Kauwhata, Taranaki, Gisborne and Wellington. Competitions were of a very high standard and also very competitive. The team manager, Heather Lilburn, said she was pleased with the team's efforts. Rosettes were presented by president of the NZPC
Ann Roke, chairman of the NZPC Games Committee Bill Woods and vice president of the NZPC Barbara Harvey. Medal bearers at the prize giving were junior riders from Raetihi club Wayne Smith and Mary Seifert along with Connie Cooper from the Ohakune club. On 20 December the Waimarino Show Jumping Trials were held, with four Raetihi riders being selected to compete at the North Island Olympian Show Jumping Champs being held in Cambridge on 15 & 16 January. Those selected from the club were Nicola Smith and Amanda Garland jumping in the intermediate section, Cameron Morris and Virginia Morris in the junior section. Adrian Fetzer from the Ohakune club is the fifth rider for the Waimarino team jumping in the senior section with Heather Lilburn as the manager.
