Amohia sworn on to council

Kevin Amohia was sworn in as a Taumarunui Ward member of the Ruapehu District Council last Friday, after the council decided to reject a demand for a poll and appoint the next highest polling candidate in the recent election. The action followed the resignation, before he was sworn in, of successful candidate Mark Ebry. The petition, organised by Caroline O'Neil, called for a by-election to find a replacement. An election was estimated to cost over $13,000. The petition was signed by 242 people, with 223 needed to force an election. However, 26 names were not on the roll of electors and two names were illegible.
