Turoa offers season pass credits
Turoa' s 1995 will "go down in history" as one of their most challenging seasons. "The spectacular sight of the mountain erupting, on Saturday 23 September will long be remembered by the 4000 people who were at Turoa that day," writes Turoa in their summer newsletter. That was when "Ruapehu had its say", after massive snowfalls had been piling up the base setting the scene for what was going to be the best spring ever. Despite the eruption the field remained free of lahar and ash fallout and they managed to reopen for the last few weeks of October. "The media, meanwhile, continued to cover the bad luck stories of Whakapapa while almost totally ignoring the good news of great spring skiing on pristine white slopes at Turoa," they lament in their newsletter. Because of the eruption and poor weather, pass holders found it difficult to gain full value from their Anytime and Season passes. "Also, many customers did not come back for October spring skiing as we were not able to operate our T-bars." Because of the difficulties the company is offering credits to those people on passes for next year. Adult season pass holders will receive a $100 voucher while youth pass holders will receive a $50 voucher, to be used towards the purchase of their 1996 pass. Those who had an unused Anytime Pass will receive a credit for the days not used on a 1996 pass. The company advises skiers to hold on to their passes as they will contact them in March next year.
