Two join Waiouru Board

The Waiouru Community Board, at its inaugural meeting, recei ved four nominations to fill the two vacancies left after insufficient candidates stood for the recent election. Of the four nominations Abe Hepi and Rod Hart were successful and made their declarations to complete the board membership of four elected and two nominated positions. Mr Hepi is a local hotel director and Mr Hart is an Army major. Councillor Bob Vine was elected chairperson and Murray Fitchett deputy chairperson, with other board members being Kerry Harding and councillor Sue Rodger. The board put forward a resolution to the Ruapehu District Council that board meetings be held every two months as opposed to monthly. The resolution was carried with Mr Fitchett objecting. RDC Chief Executive Cliff Houston told the board a special meeting could be called if required. The next meeting is scheduled for February.
