Reduced numbers but good news for holiday team

Good news and bad news greeted Christmas Holiday Waimarino '95 last week. "Child Cancer Foundation have reneged and written to us stating they are unable to participate, citing time restrictions as a main reason," stated event team leader Jarrod Coburn last week. He said the good news is Starship Hospital, Crippled Children Society and the Wanganui branch of the Child Cancer Foundation, have indicated their members would be more than grateful to take advantage of our generosity. He added that to date fund raising has not been "proacti ve", yet they have been overwhelmed by offers of help and donations. Petra Bagust and the ICE TV team, Neil Waka and Roger MaClay, Minister of Youth Affairs and MP for Taupo, have confirmed they will be here on the weekend. Due to the problem with the Auckland CCFNZ, the team have amended the number of families coming to 10 representing 40 people, which will make logistics a lot easier. They are still looking at large numbers for next year.

"It is hard not to sound self-righteous when you say 'Christmas is a time for giving' but this is exactly what this community is doing right now — and the evidence of true Christmas spirit in this small community is overwhelming," said Jarrod. _____
