Conservation award for Army
One of New Zealand' s oldest and most influential conservation groups recently presented the Army Training Group (ATG) with atokenof appreciation for the groups' conservation efforts. In what is believed to be only the second presentation given to industry in 70 years, the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society presented the Commander of ATG, Colonel Roger Mortlock, a framed photo of the Moawhango ecological district, of which ATG is a part.
Its inscription reads "In appreciation of the sensitive management of a fragile and important ecological area and the care and very real conservation ethos that the Army shows for the country it occupies. In appreciation particularly for the Pinus contorta control programme and compilation of a land use inventory study, the rabbit and hare control, the identification of Recommended Areas for Protection and the ready co-operation with other authorities over the control of wild horses."
