Concert for Ratana renovation
A concert and disco was held on 24 November at the Raetihi Primary School hall, organised to help raise funds for the renovation of the Ratana church in Raetihi. The Morehu Youth Centre did not raise what they had hoped for but are still pleased with their efforts. They believe Raetihi and Ohakune have many Ratana adherants and expressed disappointment at the lack of support for the concert. One of the organisers, Denise Perkins, said they are thankful to the participants who volunteered their time and entertainment and for the people who went. She said the Raetihi
School Bilingual Cultural group opened the concert with a "strong and massive" performance, and their tutors Colleen Hansen, Vanessa Katene and Cindy Hiroti should be commended as they are already in the throes of the up and coming Cultural Festival to be held on 1 December in Raetihi. Rana from Ohakune captivated the audience with her enchanting and superb singing. Omeka and J Dubb also gave a gallant performance with their rap number. The focus of the night was on Pricilla and Lisa Richards giving their all with their brilliant vocals,
joined by their talented parents Colin and Lyn and also Rana. Carl Perkins, Arvil W allace and Colin Richards ended the concert with songs Carl recorded with his band Mana. The children joined them on stage dancing and revelling in the atmosphere. This was followed by a disco which was delayed for a while due to an electronic breakdown. The rest of the night was enjoyed by adults and children alike, The organisers of the concert state that it is not easy organising these events, but stressed they "need not look outside for talent.
