Refuse station issue to go round again
The Ruapehu District Council has called a public meeting to discuss issues relating to the location of the Orautoha Refuse Transfer Station (see classified advertisements for details). Council chief executive Cliff Houston said earlier this month works to construct the transfer station at the Council' stiolding paddock were deferred following the receipt of a petition signed by 29 people who stated a preference that the transfer station be located on the old tip site.
This is despite the issue having been already considered by the Waimarino Community Board who last year accepted a recommendation to locate the station in the holding paddock. On 10 November the Ruapehu District Council resolved to refer the matter to the Waimarino Community Board who will consider the issues and make their recommendation on Thursday 7 December. "All residents and ratepayers of Orautoha and the surrounding area are invited
to attend the public meeting and to contribute to a positive outcome regarding refuse disposal in their community," said Mr Houston.
