Computer link sends tourist information nation-wide
Tourists can now get up-to-date in formation about Waimarino tourist operators anywhere in New Zealand. Kate Chambers, Visitor Information Network rep-
resentative, has set the database up at the Ohakune Information Centre. Kate says an annual fee of $213 gives an operator a year's subscription to the database, and so far 12.5 per cent of all operators in the tourism industry in New
Zealand have taken up a subscription. The beauty of the database is that visitors to Ohakune can enquire about and book their intended activities before they arrive at their next destination. The New Zealand Tourism
Board data base is used in conjunction with the Telecom Visitor Yellow Pages database by a staff member at visitors centres, and all inquiries about "what there is to do in Ohakune" may well be answered outside the area, in
Queenstown for example. A customer may book their accommodation, restaurant, and outdoor adventures before leaving Queenstown. "If you are in the tourism industry you
can' t afford to not be on this database," Kate said. The database is a joint venture between Telecom and the New Zealand Tourism Board. Kate said New Zealand
is the first country in the world to set up such a database and it' s because of our small versatile infrastructure combined with a great Kiwi attitude that the data base got off the ground.
