Funds for school from 'The Cup'

The first Tuesday of November as usual saw Cleche' s packed with Melbourne Cup punters in the name of racing and supporting a fund raiser for the Ohakune Primary School PTA. All up $800 was raised, which will go a long way toward the installation of a computer linking the school' s library to the National Library database, and also toward the purchase of more books. New leasees of the Ohakune Hotel, Ross and Liz Wiggery did a sterling job, providing the venue, putting on afternoon tea, donating spot prizes, providing a room for a creche and giving'everyone two complimentary drinks. Annah.S. and Jean City put on a fashion parade as a preview to what this season's best dressed should be wearing. Gail Rumble and Bruce Cranston were voted the

best dressed and Di Boulton was declared to have the best hat. Spot prizes went to Robyn Bayens, Mrs Turner and John Broadbent who got a prize because he tums up every year. Pania Mowatt took time out from Peak FM to act as master of ceremonies and Tania and Kelly Lumsden looked after the creche. An enjoyable time was had by all, and even though the function officially finished at 6.00 pm, some stayed and made a night of it.
