Waimarino Golf
On Sunday 5 November the Waimarino Golf Club hosted the annual 36-hole mixed foursomes tournament, sponsored by Brian Dowsett of Bee Dee's Coffee Shop and Franz Brandl of the AlpineRestaurant and Wine Bar of Ohakune. A total of 74 players took part this year and judging from the openness in which stories of golfing irregularity were bandied around afterwards, all seemed to enjoy the day despite the weather. Entries came from as far away as Hamilton in the north and Fielding in the south with good support coming from Taihape, Waiouru and Wanganui. Results: The winners on a Gross of 160 were G Creedy and V Johns; 2nd on 163 B Corner and J Ritchie. Nett winners of 1 36 were K Roddick and B Frost; 2nd A Murdie Snr and H Cranston 139; 3rd C Gordon and A Hays 142; 4th G and S Lind 142; 5th E Rush, B Taylor 143; 6th C Heinold, G White 143; 7th R and C Nightingale 143. The winners on stableford were M Hays D Winchombe 78; 2nd J Summerhays, M Ruby 76; 3rd B and L Drinkwater 74; 4th D Dick, S Rose 74. The winners of the prestigious "Tree Iron" (the most golf) John Mcllroy and Jill Lane with 222, and they hit every one of them, not like some, say no more, (Pania and James). Nearest the pin prizes, D Windle 9th;PaniaMot 14th. Nearest 2nd shot, W Marsh, P Mcllroy 7th; Pauline Mowat, T Dickson 12th. On Thursday afternoon Twi-light golf will start with the usual assortment of competition categories. We invite golfers and non golfers to come and enjoy this fun competition, all are welcome. Next Sunday is closing day and the year's trophy winners will be awarded their prizes.
