Waimarino squash

Waimarino Squash Club finals 18 October: A very small turn out did not detract from the gutsy, hard hitting play of both the women' s and men's squash club finals, held last Saturday aftemoon. Sharon and Sarina Marumaru played each other in the women' s final, with Sarina winning all three games 9/6, 9/ 3, 9/1. Though Sarina won the finals, her sister Sharon gave her a good run for her money (so to speak), particularly in the first game with some long rallies making for close calls. In the end Sarina won the final game by a comfortable margin. The men' s finals were played in a hard and fast fashion. Craig Munroe and Doug Sattler lined up and right from the onset, Sattler had the upper hand, although Munroe came back strongly, with some determined rallies that had Sattler on the back foot at times. Munro played a few shots to Sattler' s back hand, but there was plenty of strength in the return shots and a determined Sattler won all three games, the scores being 9/1, 9/2, 9/3. The Security and General shield is to be held on 4 November with visitors expected from Taihape and Taumarunui.
