Peak to 'Keg draws in the locals

Labour weekend Monday saw 33 keen bods assemble at the top of the Giant Chairlift on Turoa Skifield for the annual Peak to Powderkeg multisports event. The Peak to Powderkeg has been described as an exhilarating individual or team event with the added draw card

being that it is downhill all the way ! CompetitOrs ski three kilometres to the base area and then run five kilometres down the Mountain Road where they exchange running shoes for a bike helmet and mountain bike for a dash to the finish at the Powderkeg. A prize giving and a barbecue followed which was enjoyed by all. Organisers Annie Scarf, Chris Sloan (Powderhorn Chateau) and Joanna Savage (Turoa Ski Resort) said despite the fierce competition there were no dramas or accidents and everything went very smoothly. They were pleased there was such a good turn out by locals The results were: Women - Caroline Debord 38 minutes 57 seconds, Cath Campbell 41 :52, Jacquette Stock 42: 16. Men - Chris Thrupp 31:31 , Mat Eton 31:48, Brad Barr 34:10. Teams - Terminal Velocity, Dwayne Dixon and Co., The Rimu Park Rope-ins. Numerous spot prizes were also given out and the tinny Jon King was once again in luck, winning a new pair of skis.
