Army marae opened
More than 5000 people gathered in Waiouru on the weekend to celebrate the opening of the New Zealand Army Marae at Waiouru. The celebrations began on Friday night with a powhiri and dinner and began on Saturday with a dawn dedication ceremony starting at 4.30am. VIP's were to include Lieutenant General AL Birks, chief of defence force; Maj Gen Piers Reid, chief of general staff; Mark Gray, JP; Professor Fraser; Sir Charles Bennett; Dame Te Atairangikaahu; and Sir Hepi Te Heu Heu.
