Waimarino Golf

A busy weekend at the club this week saw champions in all grades found. After some very close games on the Saturday the following champions emerged. Senior men: Jim Corbett won on the 36th hole from Trevor Frederick Junior. Intermediate men a victory to Pat Goldfinch over John Hammond. A victory that Pat has been looking forward to for many years. Junior men: Graham Lind beat Con Heinold on the 35th hole and in the senior B final Joe Matin beat Jason Whale on the 2 1 st hole after a tough match. In the ladies Carol Leary was victorious again, beating Jill Martin on the 35th hole. In the bronze 1 division Lyn Drinkwater was successful against Barbara Dempsey after a tough battle winning on the 35th.hole also. Young golfer Sarah Lind copied her fathers efforts and won the bronze 1 1 division against Heather Cranston on the 1 4th hole. A fine effort by Sarah who is in her first year of golf. On Sunday the club handicappers final was held with Pania Mowat against Helen Hammond. Pania was victorious beating Helen on the 18th hole. Congratulations to all the winners but beware the rest of us are after you next year. ( On the Saturday evening a successful Karaoke was held with all those attending enjoying themselves. Some fine talent was exhibited on the niaht. Sunday saw the club host the Kakatahi golf club members from the Parapara course. A very good day was had by all with the Waimarino members being successful in winning the trophy by an average of 3 1 .22 to Kakatahis 27.33. Best scores for the day were Andrew Murdie 39 points; Neil Leitz and Ian Symes 37 points; Mark Hays, Joe Martin and Sarah Lind 36 points; Robin Casey 35 points. Golf club members are to beware of the phantom tackle in the club house. Do not turn your back on Helen Hammond, they advise.
