Ruapehu voting time
Friday 29 September will see the release to Post Offices of voting papers for the 1995 local authority elections. Delivery should be completed by Wednesday 5 October, states the council. In the Ruapehu District 9891 electors will receive their papers along with 1 33 ratepayers who live outside the district and who qualify as "ratepayer electors". Special voting will commence from Monday 2 October and applications should be made to the Manuaute Street office of the Council in Taumarunui or the Service Centre in Miro Street, Ohakune.
There are numerous reasons why a voter may be entitled to a special vote. The most common are: their voting paper wasn't received; was lost, spoilt or destroyed; their name is not on the Electoral Roll but should be; they have enrolled since the roll was published. If in doubt contact the returning officer or his deputy on 07-895-8188. Voting papers must be in the hands of the Returning Officer by 12 noon on Saturday 14 October 1995, not in the hands of the Post Office. "Better late than never" just won't apply, states the returning officer.
