$80,000 upgrade for Waiouru school
Work will begin next month on upgrading Waiouru Primary School' s junior department staff room and construction of facilities for the disabled. The total cost of the project is estimated at nearly $80,000 most of which has already been granted to the school through the Ministry of Education. Last week a grant for $25,313.79 from the
Financial Assistance Scheme run by the Ministry of Education was approved. Prior to that the school had obtained a ministry grant for $40,000. "It's quite incredible actually, we don't have to spend that money from the school," principal Tauri Morgan said. "It's only going to cost us $12,000 to $14,000. We're really chuffed with that," he said. Facilities for the disabled will include chang-
ing facilities and a shower, toilet and sluice area. The junior department staff room will be widened providing better visitor access. "It basically will bring the school up to the standard other schools enjoy. Teachers have had pretty spartan accommodation down there for a long time," Mr Morgan said. He is confident the work will be finished for the start of the 1996 school year.
