"If elected, I will..."

• Ratepayers and residents of the district have every reason to be concerned with the direction of the council' s roading company RCL Ruapehu Construction Limited have set up a new nursery in Ohakune retailing stock in competition with other nursery businesses. Not only does this action conflict with objectives of the company, it is not an essential part of the company. RCL has already set up a nursery production unit in Taumarunui. While this may be in line with the company ' s objectives, retailing stock in competition with local businesses is not. It must be remembered that ratepayers are the shareholders of the roading company and have representatives supposedly acting in the best interests of the shareholders. As Mayor of the Ruapehu District I would move to implement performance measures of the statement of

corporate intent. The Ruapehu District Council has the ability to remove representatives of the directorate if the interests of the shareholders are not met. Clearly by RCL competing for nursery business within the district it has a detrimental effect on existing businesses and has major political implications.
